"This is getting entirely out of hand," thinks Elijah, looking out at the massive property damage that was, thankfully, the only real casualty of the skirmish. "The Great Ten. The Martian Manhunter. Lex Fucking Luthor. Superman." He had barely gotten used to having Freeman along, but now he's got his very own Justice League.

"No," he says under his breath. "Not a Justice League ... a Justice Society."

He remembers Bastet's  warning: You must reforge the circle. Only the Justice Society can train the next generation of heroes to defeat the darkness.

With the Great Ten and whatever it was controlling them defeated, Elijah decides it's time to get back to the mission Bastet set them  on: Gathering the Children of the Century. He throws Freeman a look ... he's the only one who can back up the story, who knows what the stakes are. More importantly, he's the only one they'll listen to.

"Gentlemen," he says to Superman and the others, mustering what Old Man gravitas he has. "My name is Elijah Snow. I represent the Planetary Foundation, and it's imperative that Ms. Quantum come with us. The fate of the world's at stake."

Wow, he thinks.  Maybe superhero dialog is contagious.

Jenny Quantum was born in Singapore, and knows its streets and alleys on a subatomic level. She can feel the city's pulse and flow in her blood, even when she's away. It's why she always returns here, when all of the universe is theoretically open to her. Singapore is home. It's where she feels safe. which for all her power is a feeling that comes seldom.

But now she's being chased through the alleys by a dozen or so identical looking men. She knows who they are, of course, but can't believe they'd pursue her here.  "What were they thinking?" she muses to herself, and then turns and scatters them with an explosion of energy. She doesn't want to hurt them. Not really. Even at her young age, she's seen enough death to be tired of it. But she won't let them hurt her, anyway.

Her pursuers delayed, she turns again and runs. Again, she tries to summon a door, and again, it doesn't come.

That's when the sonic attack hits, throwing her off her guard. And that's when the arrow tip grazes her arm, and she can feel the paralytic, interfering with her ability to access her powers. She can feel them in the shadows, closing in on her.

She won't die here. She knows that. But there are fates worse than death, and the Spirit of the 21st Century falling into their hands is one of them.

It was easier for a sentient gorilla to make a stealthy entrance into a public building that you'd think. Granted it was night and he had traveled in a rather large fan to hide his massive frame while traveling, but it had still been easier than anticipated.

"Keep an eye open," Grodd ordered the humans up front. They were both mind-controlled security personnel with credentials that would send any nosy bystanders off none the wiser.

A few got out, casing the perimeter before one gave a couple knocks on the van door. Signal given that it was clear, Grodd exited. The sight of several light-armored men escorting a giant gorilla into a museum would be an odd sight just about anywhere else..but this was Central City. Grodd had been here many times before. He let out a low growl. He would have greatly preferred not to come to this city again, but this called for his personal attention. If the worst came to happen, it wouldn't matter. The wheels were already in motion. He abandoned the line of thinking when he heard the security team unlock the door. They had already disabled the alarm.

"You two, keep an eye on the front. The rest of you, come with me."

They followed as dutiful as any soldier, which was precisely what their mental programming told them to do. The local security guard was knocked unconscious and drugged into a corner. It was then that Grodd saw his objective. It looked relatively unimpressive, a relic found in some backwater third world country. It was carved to resemble some primitive deity, but if what Grodd suspected was true, it was something more entirely.

The day before Thanksgiving, and the Daily Planet offices are buzzing as Perry White walks through the newsroom, having returned from...somewhere. He doesn't say much, just nodding and grunting as some of the newer reporters and copy editors just...get out of his way. They normally do that when he's in a bad mood.

He turns into his office and walks towards his desk...where he apparently is already sitting, typing furiously away. "Perry" walks over to the desk and leans on his arms, waiting for Perry to notice him.

"You know, doors exist for a reason." Perry says as he finishes his sentence and looks up. "Mainly to keep from being dis....what the..."

As Perry sees this...other Perry...the form morphs, Martian-like, into the visage of Amazo, the One Man Justice League.

Perry gasps. "Great Caesars'..."

Amazo shoves the desk, with Perry and the chair behind it, straight backward, through the window, several stories up.

"...ghost." Amazo finishes.

The Justice League Watchtower

J'onn J'onzz stared out at the stars from the bridge of the Watchtower, feeling quite at home.  To return to these hallowed halls, to once more be counted among the World's Greatest Super-Heroes...

J'onn would never be one to compare or put his suffering above that of others.  But Doctor Manhattan and the others who had played so recklessly with time and their lives...  His  history, his friends, his very sense of self had been stolen from him.  He had been turned against his friends, his very history, the history of his people, had been altered to the point of being unrecognizable.

But he was himself again, his memories and history as they should be.

He looked out at the stars and at the Earth.

"It is good to be home."
